     ‘L’dor v’dor’

    ‘From generation to generation’

    The heart of the community

“The only synagogue in my whole long life where I have felt so uplifted and in touch.”

Despite our ever-changing world, the synagogue remains the cornerstone of Jewish community and identity. Your generous contribution will ensure that the synagogue remains the enduring and strong cornerstone of our Jewish community and identity, a constant in our ever-changing world.

The synagogue is at the centre of the Jewish community, caring for people from the moment we enter the world to the time we leave it. Emanuel Synagogue offers a home to a diverse community, a welcoming place where we can live our Judaism in a contemporary world. We are a pluralistic synagogue, affiliated with the Progressive, Masorti and Renewal movements. Our spiritual, educational and cultural programmes engage people from all over Sydney. We are proud of our reputation as an inclusive, warm and caring congregation.

    Our future

We have always relied on the generosity of our members to support the growth and development of Emanuel Synagogue. There are many ways to contribute now, but if you would like to make a lasting contribution in the future, we would be honoured if you would consider remembering Emanuel Synagogue in your Will.

    Why give to Emanuel Synagogue?

We know that there are many worthy places for your bequest to go and we are grateful that you are considering supporting our synagogue with a gift. We believe that the work of our synagogue is vitally important to the future of Judaism in contemporary, multicultural Australia. Emanuel Synagogue has an unparalleled inclusive approach to Judaism, which particularly attracts younger generations.

We have made a commitment that everyone finds a home at our synagogue regardless of financial means, and we depend on the generosity of our donors who help subsidise our programmes and activities. Your gift will help us continue to engage more members of our Sydney Jewish community, ensuring the continuation of Jewish identity and values.

“An inclusive and a safe place for people to practise their faith and be welcomed.”

“Living in Australia, away from family and friends, Emanuel Synagogue gives us the cherished feeling of home and community. It is great to belong to such an inclusive and supportive congregation.”

Remembering Emanuel Synagogue in your Will

Your Will enables you to determine exactly how your Estate will help the individuals and organisations that are important to you. Naming Emanuel Synagogue as a beneficiary of your Estate is a way to express your connection to our community and helps ensure Jewish continuity by providing essential support into the future. You may choose to specify where your gift will be spent or elect to leave that decision to our Board, who will apply it to the needs of the synagogue at that time.

We would be delighted to discuss leaving your bequest in the memory of a loved one or in your name, thereby linking your family with our future. We have many options for you to consider, including giving anonymously if that is your preference.

    If you wish to direct

    your gift

A bequest may be directed to a specific purpose or may be given for the general use of the synagogue. Some of the specific programs you can direct your gift to include:

    • Expanding our ability to provide pastoral care to our congregation at home, in hospitals and in nursing homes
    • Educating children by helping families provide their children with a bar/bat mitzvah experience
    • Funding programmes that promote Progressive, Masorti or Renewal Judaism
    • Supporting our cultural offerings of music, theatre and art
    • Improving security in order to protect the synagogue and those who visit it

Please contact us to discuss the different options for your bequest in confidence.

    Ways to leave a bequest

Before leaving a gift in your Will to Emanuel Synagogue, we recommend that you involve your family in your decision and that you seek the advice of your solicitor. Making a gift in this way does not always entail rewriting your Will. A simple codicil (an addition or supplement to your Will) is an easy way to arrange this special gift. Should you wish to have the synagogue act as Executor of your Will, this can be arranged. You may specify a gift-in-Will to Emanuel Synagogue by way of the following:

    • A fixed sum
    • A percentage of your Whole Estate
    • Income from your Estate
    • The residue of your Estate (monies remaining after providing for other beneficiaries)
    • A special asset, such as real estate, shares, bonds, life insurance policy or other item of value
