Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Part-Time Assistant Accountant to join our finance team. As an Assistant Accountant at Emanuel Synagogue, you will play a crucial role in supporting our financial operations and ensuring the organization’s fiscal responsibilities are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in day-to-day accounting and financial transactions
- Prepare and maintain financial records, ledgers, and reports
- Reconcile accounts and assist in the preparation of financial statements
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
- Collaborate with team members on financial analysis and audits
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and policies
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Proven experience in accounting or finance roles
- Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of relevant financial regulations and principles

Emanuel Synagogue is a religious non-for-profit organisation. The operations of Emanuel Synagogue are facilitated through the charities that comprise the Emanuel Group. The Emanuel Group supports a congregation of more than 3500 members and is currently in the process of redevelopment of the campus.
The Financial Controller (FC) is responsible for all financial matters of the Emanuel Group.
The FC will manage all financial operations and systems, ensuring that there are appropriate processes and controls in place and that all associated risks are managed and mitigated. The FC must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in a deadline-oriented workplace, always performing to the highest standard.
The FC will report to and work closely with the Executive Director and will be responsible for managing a team of two finance staff.
Key Competencies:
- experienced and mature leader with at least 5 years of broad finance experience
- ability to prepare and present Financial Reports to the Board;
- managing finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting) for complex and diverse organisations
Technical Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Formal accounting qualifications CA/CPA/ACCA
- At least 5 years of experience in senior management roles
- Demonstrated experience, ideally in the non profit sector, in financial management and accounting
- Substantial level of competency with Microsoft Word and Excel
