Simchat Torah

WHAT IS SIMCHAT TORAH?

Simchat Torah, the celebration and joy of the Torah, is the time when we conclude the reading of the scroll and then read from the beginning again. It is a festival of great joy and merriment where we dance with the Torah and sing in celebration of the gift God gave to us. We also honour two special congregants with the first and last Aliyah of the reading cycle.

For Simchat Torah evening our band will energise the crowd as we dance with the Torah. We will complete the traditional seven circuits of the sanctuary and everyone who chooses may hold and dance with the Torah. We will have lollies for the children so that Torah will always be a source of sweetness.
