Ofer Levy - The Nature of Israel
For the month of May, we will be exhibiting a selection of images by photographer Ofer Levy in Emanuel Synagogue's gallery. In this exhibition, Ofer has selected some of his favourite images of the birds and other animals of Israel.
Ofer has been fascinated with the natural world ever since he can remember. As a young boy he used to spend most of his free time in the fields near his home in Haifa, Israel watching birds, insects and other wildlife. As a teenager he started to be interested in photography and used to collect photos of wildlife and read books on photography and nature.
The real breakthrough in Ofer’s wildlife photography career took place as soon as he arrived in Australia about 17 years ago when he bought his first Canon Digital DSLR camera and a Canon 500mm telephoto lens.
His wildlife photos have been published in many magazines and books all over the world including National Geographic Magazine, Australian Geographic Magazine, BBC Wildlife Magazine and more.
Ofer’s pictures have won several awards including an award in the prestigious BBC Wildlife Photographer Of The Year competition (2011), Australian Geographic/ ANZANG photographer of the year (Overall winner 2007, 2011) and more. The Australian Museum in Sydney had an exhibition with 16 of Ofer’s wildlife images in an exhibition for nearly two years. (2016-2017)When he is not photographing wildlife, Ofer enjoys his career as a Bar/Bat Mitzvah and other events photographer in the community.
If you are visiting Emanuel Synagogue for an event or service please be sure to have a look at this wonderful exhibition.
