About
This year will be a unique experience for all of us. Normally at this time, we would be gathering together at our campus in Woollahra, seeing family, reconnecting with friends and hearing familiar prayers and music. However, due to the pandemic, we are unable to envelope ourselves in the preparations of the familiar.
Despite this, we are doing all that is possible to help you to create a holy and spiritual experience at home providing inspiration through learning, discussion, and prayer. While we recognise it cannot replace the experience we would have had together in synagogue, we hope we can help lift your spirits and create the environment of the High Holidays.
We invite you to join us virtually at Emanuel Synagogue as we continue to pray, learn and be together throughout the High Holy Day period.
May we all be inscribed in the Book of Life,
Emanuel Synagogue Clergy, Staff and Board.
Wandering Shofar
One of the mitzvot of Rosh Hashannah is to hear the sound of the shofar. As this year we could not do that in the synagogue we connected with many of you, as Rabbi Kaiserblueth walked throughout the Eastern Suburbs to numerous locations on second day Rosh Hashanah, Sunday 20 September. It was wonderful to see so many of our congregants together with their family and friends gather to fulfil the mitzvah of hearing the shofar.
Yizkor Memorial Book
An important part of our Yamim Nora’im commemoration is the Yizkor (memorial) service, when we remember our loved ones who are no longer with us. The names of those who have died since last Yom Kippur are read out.
In addition, we produce a Memorial Book which is placed in the Ark next to the Sifrei Torah as a gesture of respect and honour for those who have died.
